What is the difference between AI and ChatGPT?

AI, or Artificial Intelligence, is a broad term referring to the development of computer systems that can perform tasks that would typically require human intelligence.  It involves creating machines or programs that can analyze information, learn from it, and make decisions or take actions based on that knowledge.  It has been used every day, all around you, by larger companies.  But now, with the advent of ChatGPT, Bing Chat, and Google's "Bard", average everyday people, and small businesses have access to ever more powerful forms of AI.  This impact is revolutionary and will transform much about how we go about our everyday business.

On the other hand, ChatGPT, is an internet resource known as a Large Language Model (LLM), which is a specific example of AI technology. It stands for "Chat Generative Pre-trained Transformer" and is a type of language model (computer program) developed by a company named OpenAI.  Based on the input it receives, ChatGPT is designed to generate human-like text responses in a variety of ways, similar to how people communicate with each other.  It has been trained on a vast amount of data to understand and generate intelligently produced, coherent, and relevant conversations.

In simpler terms, AI is the larger concept that encompasses the development of many types of intelligent computer systems, while ChatGPT is a specific internet based AI technology that focuses on generating realistic and contextually appropriate text-based conversations.

What is an LLM and why should I know?

You should know what an LLM is simply because they are exploding in popularity, and you will be using one soon, if you have not already.  Breaking it down into simple terms, an LLM, or Large Language Model, is just a type of computer program (a model) that can generate natural language texts (human-like responses) from very large amounts of data.  LLMs use deep neural networks (human brain like programs), such as transformers, to learn from billions or trillions of words and produce texts on any topic. These models have been increasing in size and complexity every year, and as they grow, so do their capabilities.

Both OpenAI and Google operate two of the largest and most popular LLMs. OpenAI's LLM is ChatGPT and Google's is Gemini. This interactive program is similar to ChatGPT.

These LLMs are "trained" on massive datasets of text and code, and they can be used for a variety of tasks including:

LLMs are still under development, but they are revolutionizing the way we interact with computers. They can help us to better understand the world around us, and they can automate some tasks that are currently done by humans. As LLMs continue to improve, they will become increasingly powerful and versatile tools.

What is "Prompt Engineering" in AI?

Prompt engineers use both art and science to design effective text prompts to guide AI models, such as LLMs, to generate desired responses. They must understand how these models interpret an engineered customized prompt and tailor them to align with the strengths and limitations of each LLM.  In effect, prompt engineers are "Chatbot Whisperers".

By carefully selecting input phrasing, context, and constraints, prompt engineers can significantly improve the quality and relevance of the AI-generated output.  Prompt Engineering is a large part of what we do.

Where's a good place to start with AI?

Easy answer: Any Writing.  Whether your a restaurant owner with a website needing an engaging blog, a white collar business professional requiring formal letters or documents with a professional tone, a marketing firm generating creative ad content for clients, a company producing concise and easy to understand support materials internally or for the public, or any enterprise requiring more effective writing content, ChatGPT can help you craft audience directed, engaging and professional material with the right tone and style to keep your readers connected.

Is implementing AI into my work environment complicated?

At first, just like with any new technology, moving into the AI realm might seem a bit overwhelming.  We all became more familiar with the operation of smart phones, tablets, and other electronic devices  after investing some initial time and effort.  But once the knowledge was gained and applied, the benefits were obvious.  It's hard to imagine not using our tech tools today!  Similarly, the move to AI can be gradual, assisting with some of your business's daily activities.  Depending our your work and its requirements, it can eventually become an integral part of your operations.

We can help you start small to test the waters.  After an initial assessment of your work processes, we explain, in simple terms, how AI can make your operations run more efficiently.  Only then, after you understand the benefits and any limitations, will we move forward working with you to design and implement any AI application.

During this integration, we will ease the implementation with services provided as needed, such as: on-site tutoring,  video conferencing, custom prepared online YouTube video lessons for your present and future reference, and other appropriate communications.  A central part of our assistance is working with you to create custom configured ChatGPT "prompts", or commands, that your company would find helpful from day one.  This is an excellent way to begin using AI immediately to save time and produce better results.

Can you show me a few examples of AI in action?

Sure.  Here are two prompt engineered creative and fun  exercises designed for teaching children. Copy and paste the text into ChatGPT, Bing Chat, or try out ChatGPT driven "ChatAssistant".
